According to several articles I've read in the last month or two, for many parts of the country especially if you live in the south or on the east coast, this summer's unusually dry and hot summer will lead to a very colorful and early autumn. You may want to take advantage of this if you want to have your wedding soon but don't have an exact date picked out soon, it may not be too late.
Autumn colors can of course provide a warm backdrop to your wedding, and the glow will stand out in photos forever. Having an outdoor wedding can be a way to take advantage of that even more, which in a lot of places isn't even a possibility to do in the summer where the heat is scorching hot or the winter when it's ice cold. For a compromise, just the reception could be outside, or just the ceremony - remember it's your wedding - you choose.
Also don't forget that your anniversary will be on that date too. Having your anniversary near Halloween could be fun, if not for the haunted houses and Halloween parties you can attend on your anniversary. Or the convenience of having family around your anniversary time, if say it's close to Thanksgiving's Day.
If you plan on having your honeymoon immediately after your wedding, there are additional advantages. Popular resort towns are more affordable this time of the year once the summer crowd has disappeared. If you want the sun and beach though, there are still plenty of places in the tropics that are hot year round.
