Beach Front Weddings

For most of the country this isn't really an option unless you fly somewhere else. But for those around the Gulf or the southwest it's of course never too cold. So do you want to have a wedding at a beach? Find a spot, think about having your ceremony there, or reception, or do both. Location is everything, and there's a lot of different ways to go about this. The beach could be private property (in which case you need permission and possibly fees), or public property (which may require a permit). It could be on a hotel patio or balcony or something of that sort, or some other type of resort place. Some places in beach communities have real great places to have weddings, so look around at all the available spots.

Get to know the weather. This time of the year is usually all right, but you may need to have a backup plan if you're planning on having it in the midst of next year's hurricane season. And in south Florida you know how the rain can be, though fortunately it's usually pretty quick so just be prepared to cover everything up if need be.

Alert any patrol vehicles in the area ahead of time, and know which way the wind is blowing. Pay attention to how windy it can be there if you were thinking of having decorations that could blow away in the wind. And be sure to visit the site now and then before the wedding for any things that could've washed ashore or unwanted leftovers from previous parties at the beach.

If it's going to be right on the sand, you may need to have your guests stand or rent some sort of flooring material to place chairs on, or at least for older people who can't stand that long. Also be prepared with something as the sun sets if the wind picks up and it gets a little chillier. Even though the day may be warm, a cool wind from the beach can cool down a crowd quick with no sun. A live band is best for a beach, as electricity may be more difficult than in other locations. And consider things like bathrooms, you don't want to be far from conveniences like that!
