Traditional Indian Weddings
posted on March 4 2012
Have you ever attended a traditional Indian wedding? It would be an unforgettable experience if you were to attend an Indian wedding. The madness and the noise will stun you. The general emphasis is on ceremony and song. Rituals and a lot of singing and dancing accompany every Indian wedding. An Indian weeding would be incomplete without loud music. The music can get awfully loud and if you are not used to it, you may as well stay away. The groom usually arrives with a lot of fanfare. He is seen astride a horse and this would probably be the first time in his life (and probably the last) that he has sat astride a horse. This arrival is accompanied by traditional folk songs. Then there is a small get together with the bridegroom sitting alongside the groom in a real close encounter. There is a little nervousness in the air and the groom and bride are not the only nervous ones present. There is usually a lot of chatting about the groom's good looks and the bride's awesome beauty. There is a short ceremony with the local priest pronouncing the unenviable pair as husband and wife. There is no kissing. That is left to a later time. For the time being, there is just a lot of sweating. This is always followed by a huge hearty meal for all.

Beach Front Weddings
posted on November 12 2011
For most of the country this isn't really an option unless you fly somewhere else. But for those around the Gulf or the southwest it's of course never too cold. So do you want to have a wedding at a beach? Find a spot, think about having your ceremony there, or reception, or do both. Location is everything, and there's a lot of different ways to go about this. The beach could be private property (in which case you need permission and possibly fees), or public property (which may require a permit). It could be on a hotel patio or balcony or something of that sort, or some other type of resort place. Some places in beach communities have real great places to have weddings, so look around at all the available spots.
Get to know the weather. This time of the year is usually all right, but you may need to have a backup plan if you're planning on having it in the midst of next year's hurricane season. And in south Florida you know how the rain can be, though fortunately it's usually pretty quick so just be prepared to cover everything up if need be.
Alert any patrol vehicles in the area ahead of time, and know which way the wind is blowing. Pay attention to how windy it can be there if you were thinking of having decorations that could blow away in the wind. And be sure to visit the site now and then before the wedding for any things that could've washed ashore or unwanted leftovers from previous parties at the beach.
If it's going to be right on the sand, you may need to have your guests stand or rent some sort of flooring material to place chairs on, or at least for older people who can't stand that long. Also be prepared with something as the sun sets if the wind picks up and it gets a little chillier. Even though the day may be warm, a cool wind from the beach can cool down a crowd quick with no sun. A live band is best for a beach, as electricity may be more difficult than in other locations. And consider things like bathrooms, you don't want to be far from conveniences like that!

Thanksgiving Day Weddings
posted on November 10 2011
Considering having your wedding around Thanksgiving day, perhaps that weekend? Not a bad idea, especially for small weddings where your whole family is already nearby, or even if it's a large wedding but everyone was coming into town for Thanksgiving regardless. You just may want to shy away from Black Friday, unless neither family is into shopping at all.
Your Dog As Your Ring Bearer
posted on November 9 2011
People are becoming more creative with ring bearers. One trend as of late is having a pet (usually a dog) be the ring bearer. If your dog is well behaved, comfortable with people and strange environments, this may not be that difficult at all. Where ever you're getting married, though, ask first to see if pet's are allowed. Some places (particularly churches) may not allow pets at all, or may require a little convincing. Some places may have restrictions on how close the dog may come to food as well.
Plan on having someone else to take responsibility for the dog, so the bride and groom can concentrate on everything else, especially just before the wedding. Unless you know your dog is an absolute professional or something, you'll probably want to have someone guide him or her down the aisle on a leash. This is a good opportunity to give a little responsibility to a younger person. Make sure the rings are fastened to the pillow with something like a twist tie. Consider using a fake ring while the groom hide's a ring or something if you're worried about it falling off. That's something you want to avoid at all costs.
Whatever material the aisle is going to be on, try having the dog walk on that several times before hand. If it's a strange material to them, they may want to walk around it or something. Having treats at regular intervals to the end should aid greatly getting them used to it. Your dog will be real happy being such an integral part of the new family from the very beginning!

Winter Wedding
posted on November 7 2011
Although most weddings seem to take place in the middle of summer, don't forget to consider how a wedding can look in the middle of winter. Consider a wedding at an inn on a cold, crisp winter day. If you're in an area that's guaranteed to have snow that time of the year, then a place with a big window for a backdrop should look even better. Either way, just make sure the heating is adequate. Eggnog, hot chocolate, and apple cider should be served and think about how the place would look decorated with snowflakes and a theme along those lines. This also gives you an opportunity to use lots of candles, pine branches, a ginger bread house, and whatever else your imagination can come up with.
What Should the Caterers Serve
posted on November 3 2011
Catering is one of the pricier things in a wedding. Usually it's assumed to go with the standard one or two meats and some sides, plus an extra course before or after. But if your wedding isn't around dinner time, you may want to consider other ideas.
Is your wedding in the morning and the reception right after? Follow up with a salad bar/buffet. Not overly expensive, there can easily be sufficient variety for everyone to be satisfied. And there's not much reason to worry for people who may spill something on a rented suit.
Early afternoon? Perhaps hors d'ouevres maybe with party trays containing buffalo wings, shrimp, etc.,.
This would also work well with a bar tender and be fun for most people.
If your wedding reception isn't during a normal mealtime, between lunch time and dinner or so, then cake and punch may be the way to go. This is simple and effective.
For the evening you have the standard one or two meat choice, with a few different side items and drinks. This can be in conjunction with other courses such as an appetizer and dessert.

Diamond Rings
posted on October 31 2011
Buying the perfect diamond ring doesn't have to feel like going to the dentist. Learn the basics, and go from there. Most people know diamond is the hardest material known. It's a crystallized form of carbon, and transparent and its ability to withstand anything else is why it came to represent marriage.
You can buy diamonds as an investment, but we're focused on buying a diamond as part of an engagement ring. Smaller diamonds are more common than bigger ones, and more inexpensive but prices can vary widely.
The value of a diamond is mainly determined by its color. The GIA scale ranks the highest quality color grades as D, E, F, which mean pure white. N, O, P mean more yellowish, and the value drops correspondingly, everything else being equal.
The presence of flaws or spots in the diamond is its clarity. These may be from other minerals that are trapped in the diamond from its growth. A microscope can be used to determine the total volume of these imperfections, classified as very, very slightly imperfect (VVS), very slightly imperfect (VS), slightly imperfect (SI), and imperfect (I).
The diamond's finish and polish is its cut. The cut is essentially what gives the diamond its look. Each surface the diamond contains usually means a more extravagant diamond, because light is dispersed in more directions then.
The weight of the diamond is measured in carats. Sometimes this is mixed up with its size.
A genuine diamond should last forever. We have a review of a diamond retailer available.

Halloween Wedding

Special effects makeup is more fun to apply than normal makeup, and allows for more creativity. Having all guests show up dressed up in costumes can also make the wedding more fun and inviting for those who would otherwise be bored.

Dealing with Bad Weather
posted on October 25 2011
Sometimes luck isn't on your side and you have to deal with these things. Even if you're wedding is indoors, some vendors may not be too eager to carry onward. If it comes down to it, talk to them and see about re-scheduling the event. Some may be flexible given the situation. If it's real close to crunch time then be prepared to have a designated phone ready that anyone can call and get an update via the voice mail message. This will save you lots of unneeded phone calls.
As soon as you absolutely know it has to be re-scheduled, notify everyone one that needs to know, vendors, the officiant, etc.,. Don't let there be any confusion as to what the plan is! As an alternative, if necessary you can consider just getting married by a court at a later point and carrying on with the reception anyway, if possible. This way everyone has a good time, and it can take the edge off the nervousness everyone feels in the ceremony, as long as everyone is all right with skipping the traditional aspect of it.

What Type of Bar Works for You
posted on October 25 2011
For some weddings, having a bar isn't even necessary. But for those who do desire one, you have a decision to make. The decision you make for this can potentially determine the number of guests you have, as people are generally more happy to go to a wedding with an open bar!
If your guests have been to a few previous weddings with cash bars though, it may be pretty reasonable to stick with that. If you're on a strict budget this may be the best choice regardless. Some people may prefer an open bar, but most people don't mind having to pay and shouldn't expect everything to be free anyway.
An open bar is the most desirable for guests. This may not be a great option even if it's easily affordable, but you have guests with alcoholic tendencies or that get aggressive when drunk.
A limited bar serves from a small selection of drinks. This is the middle ground option. Letting only signature drinks be served free, or each table having a bottle of wine, can be the right compromise for couples who are unsure of which direction to stick with.

When You'd Rather not Invite Someone
posted on October 24 2011
Unless your wedding consists of you and your spouse to-be going to Las Vegas or something of that nature to elope, you'll almost certainly have to put some thought into who to invite and who not to invite. For a small wedding, just immediate family will have to suffice, and most people will generally respect that scenario. For an even larger wedding though, there may be people you'd rather not attend. This typically includes co-workers, distant family members who hold grudges you haven't talked to in a long time, or friends of the family that aren't close to you but attend all family functions for some reason, you know the types.
For people that are only dating someone that needs to go to the wedding, you don't necessarily need to invite them. But be careful how you approach that with the person, and seating arrangement can help prevent conflicts from those type cases.
Be prepared with answers if someone bumps into you that expects to be at the wedding that you wish would just go away. Polite responses such as the wedding being too small to invite everyone, or the heat (or cold) would bother them, location, or better yet tell them your parents were responsible for wedding invitations (tell them that only if they don't know your parents), etc.,.

Wedding Planning Stress
posted on October 23 2011
For many couples in the time between engagement and the actual wedding stress increases exponentially. In fact, this is actually the case for most weddings - if this is happening for you, then don't take it personally as a sign!
Tough decisions and compromises won't be made overnight. But you can spend most of your time without a worry on your mind. What some people do is take a short vacation before the wedding (after everything is mostly organized and in place), to relax and be able to come back to the midst of it all refreshed. This is known as a pre-moon. Even just spending a few long weekends driving to some not too distant get away can enable someone to maintain a good head on one's shoulders.
If that's not an option, or even to supplement that, there are other things you can do to take off the stress. Keeping yourself busy with things besides wedding planning, such as exercise or yoga can be beneficial in more way than one. Looking better for the wedding is a plus, but the relaxation these methods may provide can prove to be quite effective among all the chaos going on prior to the wedding.
When spending time with family and friends, it may help to set times for wedding planning, and outside of those times no one even mentions the subject. On top of that, your bridesmaids should always be willing to go to a bar for a drink with you (or if you're the groom then the groomsmen) and have a good time with no worries for the evening. Just be responsible, and don't let it get to you!

Living Together Before Your Wedding?
posted on October 9 2011
So are you considering living together before your wedding? Well this has certainly become a common thing over the last couple decades. Obviously it's good to see if you're compatible with the person by moving in with them first. There are contradicting pieces of research about the divorce rate after living together pre-marriage versus living separately, so it may just depend on you and your future spouse.
Obviously living together is a great way to see how compatible you are with your lover. Whether you can tolerate each other's bad habits, supplement each other's chores, be around each other even in stressful times, you'll know. But also you have to realize that marriage is more than just being roommates, and that the commitment isn't just an extension of that.
You just have to ask yourself why. One reason could be that you're not sure if you're ready to move in with someone else, and being out on your own is something you want to be comfortable with first. Or if you're just anxious to move in, then it may be better to wait to get married as it will make your wedding even more to get excited about. If money is tight it might be easier to move in together just to accommodate for easier budgeting, or if you have to share a vehicle or a number of other possible conveniences, this may allow for a more extravagant wedding in some cases.
Whatever you do, don't do it in haste. You're less likely to regret anything you put a lot of thought into. There isn't one answer for everyone, so just make sure you do it for the right reason.

To a Pretty Autumn Wedding This Year
posted on October 5 2011
According to several articles I've read in the last month or two, for many parts of the country especially if you live in the south or on the east coast, this summer's unusually dry and hot summer will lead to a very colorful and early autumn. You may want to take advantage of this if you want to have your wedding soon but don't have an exact date picked out soon, it may not be too late.
Autumn colors can of course provide a warm backdrop to your wedding, and the glow will stand out in photos forever. Having an outdoor wedding can be a way to take advantage of that even more, which in a lot of places isn't even a possibility to do in the summer where the heat is scorching hot or the winter when it's ice cold. For a compromise, just the reception could be outside, or just the ceremony - remember it's your wedding - you choose.
Also don't forget that your anniversary will be on that date too. Having your anniversary near Halloween could be fun, if not for the haunted houses and Halloween parties you can attend on your anniversary. Or the convenience of having family around your anniversary time, if say it's close to Thanksgiving's Day.
If you plan on having your honeymoon immediately after your wedding, there are additional advantages. Popular resort towns are more affordable this time of the year once the summer crowd has disappeared. If you want the sun and beach though, there are still plenty of places in the tropics that are hot year round.
